WATERVILLE, Maine – Two goals from Christopher Martin ’17 propelled the Amherst men’s soccer team to a 3-1 NESCAC road win Saturday against Colby.
The Jeffs (8-0-2, 6-0-2 NESCAC) unbeaten streak has reached 30 games following the win against the Mules (4-6, 0-6 NESCAC).
The first half remained scoreless up until the 38th minute when Martin scored on a pretty diving header off a cross from Julien Aoyama ’14 for the first score of the game.
Just six minutes into the second half, Rohan Sood ’17 dribbled down the end line before beating a Colby defender. Sood sent a pass to the 18-yard box where Martin was waiting as he snuck one in off his left foot to give the Jeffs a 2-0 lead.
At the 70th minute, Amherst put the game out of reach when first-year player Andrew Orozco hit a wide open Tommy Haskel ’16 as Haskel slid it past the Colby keeper to give the Jeffs a 3-0 lead.
Colby got on the board at the 82:02 mark off a penalty kick from Tim Stanton ’16.
Amherst held a 16-9 advantage in shots and 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Jeffs return to the pitch tomorrow, Oct. 13, as they remain on the road for a non-conference matchup against Husson. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
