No. 3 Amherst Plays Hamilton to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

Nico2.jpgCLINTON, N.Y. – Nico Pascual-Leone ’16 netted his third goal of the year Saturday as the third-ranked Amherst men’s soccer team played Hamilton to a 1-1 double overtime draw at Love Field.

The Jeffs (7-0-2, 5-0-2 NESCAC) extend their unbeaten streak to 29 games following the tie while the Continentals (2-2-3, 1-1-3 NESCAC) end a two-game skid to their NESCAC rival.

Dan Kraynak ’15 scored Hamilton’s goal early in the second period, blasting a short shot past Amherst goalkeeper Thomas Bull ’16 after taking a pass from Griffin Abbott ‘16. The goal was Kraynak’s second of the season. Abbott leads the team with three assists.

Amherst, who outshot Hamilton 23-10, tied the game with 15 minutes left in regulation on a long Jeffs throw-in that was headed into the net by a diving Pascual-Leone.

The Jeffs’ best overtime chance at the game-winning goal came on a header by Julien Aoyama ’14 that Porges tipped over the cross bar. Porges also saved a shot by Andrew Orozco ’17 on the ensuing corner kick.

Bull made four saves in goal for Amherst and Porges stopped 11.The Jeffs recorded six of their 23 shots in the second overtime period and just over half (12) of their shots went on net.

Amherst has a week off and returns to the field Saturday, October 12 for a 1:30 p.m. game at Colby. The Continentals play a non-conference game Tuesday at Ithaca College.
