Three Jeffs Add to Postseason Honors with All-Region Recognition

Junior Alanna Darling earned All-New England First Team honors from both the NSCAA and NEWISA.

AMHERST, MA – The New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the members of the 2007 Division III All-Region Teams earlier this week. After earning NESCAC All-Conference honors in November, three members of the Amherst College women’s soccer team added to their list of postseason accolades by being named to at least one All-New England team.

Junior Alanna Darling (Charlton, MA) earned a spot on the NSCAA/adidas All-New England First Team for the second consecutive season after finishing second on the Lord Jeffs in scoring with a career-high three goals and an assist. The standout defender also improved on her 2006 NEWISA All-New England Second Team honor by earning a spot on this year’s First Team, as she anchored a defense that allowed just 17 goals in 15 games and posted six shutouts.

Sophomore Meg Murphy (Springfield, MA) also improved on last season’s accomplishments, as she was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-New England Second Team this year after earning Third Team honors in 2006. A 2006 NEWISA All-New England Second Team honoree, Murphy was the leading vote-getter among midfielders this season, as she earned a spot on the First Team. Murphy led the Amherst offense with four goals and two assists for 10 points, bringing her career totals to 10 goals and five assists.

Rounding out the All-Region honorees is sophomore Lili Ferguson (Winnetka, IL), who represents the goalkeepers on this year’s NEWISA All-New England Second Team. Ferguson’s most impressive stretch of the 2007 season came when she played more than 437 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. The sophomore goalkeeper was pushed to the limit this year, as she finished third in the NESCAC in minutes played and took part in six games that required at least one overtime period.
