Player of the Week this afternoon.

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year Amanda Brisco (Houston, TX) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week this afternoon for her play during a 1-1-0 week for the Lord Jeffs. The honor is the first player of the week award for an Amherst player this season.

During a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Keene State College in non-conference play on Wednesday, Brisco scored in the fourth minute to put Amherst up 1-0 at the time. Over the weekend, Brisco netted a pair of tallies in a 2-0 win at Wesleyan, playing the role of spoiler at the Cardinals’ homecoming celebration.

The win at Wesleyan not only clinched a home game for the Jeffs in the upcoming NESCAC Quarterfinals, but also helped the Lord Jeffs clinch the 2010 Little Three title. Amherst topped Williams 1-0 on the road earlier this season, with Brisco scoring the game’s only goal in Williamstown.

With her two goals on Saturday, Brisco became Amherst’s leading scorer for the year with 12 points on five goals and a pair of assists. Her pair of game-winners also leads the Lord Jeffs this season.

Heading into Friday’s regular season finale against Trinity College at 3 p.m. at home, the Lord Jeffs sit tied for first place in the NESCAC standings with Tufts University. Both teams are 5-1-2 in conference play, but Amherst holds the tiebreaker over the Jumbos after winning their matchup earlier this season 2-1. If Amherst finishes tied with Tufts after Friday, or can top Trinity, the Jeffs will host home games throughout the conference tournament next week.
