LEWISTON, Maine - Kathryn Nathan ’13 and Amanda Brisco ’14 each netted a goal as the seventh-ranked Amherst women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Bates College.
Improving to 2-0-0 (1-0-0) on the season, the Jeffs moved to 17-4-3 all-time against the Bobcats, having posted a 13-0-3 mark since 2000.
Getting the Amherst attack going early, Nathan beat a defender to a low cross headed for the near post, tucking in her second of the season from 12-yards out at 17:45. Recording a goal and three assists in the team’s season opener against Mount Holyoke, she has already amassed seven points through the team’s first two games.
Still holding on to a one-goal lead in the waning moments of regulation, Brisco added an insurance marker, catching up to a long through ball from Nathan before slotting her first of the year at 84:32.
Amherst held a 19-12 shot advantage with a 7-4 edge in corners. First-year netminder Holly Burwick made six saves to notch her second win of 2012, while junior counterpart Anabel Schmelz made eight stops in the loss.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Springfield College.
