AMHERST, Mass. – Sarah Duffy ’14 and Holly Burwick ’16 of the Amherst women’s soccer team were named to the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Division III All-Region teams for their stellar play on the field this season. Duffy, who was selected to play in the NEWISA Senior Bowl last month, earned second team laurels while Burwick was named to the third team.
Duffy completed a stellar four-year campaign with an impressive senior season donning the Purple & White. The senior forward played all 17 games for the Jeffs, leading the team in assists (5) and finishing in a tie for second on the squad in goals (5). Of those five goals, two of them resulted in game winners. Her 15 points also ranked second among all Jeffs and tied for ninth among NESCAC leaders while her five assists tied for fifth highest in the conference.
Burwick, a Second Team All-NESCAC selection, logged 1502:25 minutes between the posts with a 10-4-3 record en route to third team honors. The sophomore goalkeeper started all 17 games this season and proved to be one of the top keepers in the country, ranking ninth nationally in goals-against average (0.42). The New Canaan, Conn. native allowed just seven goals all season and posted seven shutouts with an .892 save percentage.
Beginning the year with a streak of 394:19 consecutive scoreless minutes, she did not surrender her first goal until the 39th minute of the team’s fifth game. Burwick responded by stringing together another long shutout streak, this time holding opponents without a goal for 385:08 over her next five outings.
