Amherst Topples Hamilton 8-1 on the Road

CLINTON, NY - The Amherst College men's tennis team sent a line-up outside of its top players to NESCAC rival Hamilton College this afternoon, and still emerged with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Continentals. Amherst improves to 19-4 on the year, and remains unbeaten at 3-0 in conference play.

Amherst took a 2-1 lead out of doubles play, with Hamilton's only team point coming from a a 9-7 win at number three doubles. Amherst's pairing of Sean Doerfler (Douglaston, NY) and Julian Camacho (New York, NY) cruised at number one doubles, winning 8-2.

In singles play, Amherst first-year Surain Asokaraj (Acton, MA) pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hamilton's Greg Kreitzer to lead the charge. Doerfler topped Mark Segal at number two, winning 6-0 in the first set before pulling out a second set tiebreaker 7-1.

Camacho carried momentum out of doubles play into a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mike Moreno at number three, while Robby Sorrel (Scarsdale, NY) rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at number four.

Sophomore Tony Sheng (Aurora, IL) and junior Alex Kaufman (Woodside, CA) pulled out a pair of wins at number five and six singles to close the singles sweep, and give Amherst an 8-1 win.

The Lord Jeffs elected to leave the 7th-ranked upper portion of the line-up at home this afternoon with a crucial meeting against No. 5 Williams looming on the near horizon. The Lord Jeffs and Ephs will take the courts at Amherst tomorrow in the latest installment of the storied Little Three rivalry starting at noon.
