SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The 19th-ranked Amherst College men’s tennis team knocked off its second top-25 opponent in as many days Sunday, traveling to Skidmore College and handling the host Thoroughbreds 8-1 as the Lord Jeffs swept doubles play.

Amherst (17-7) jumped out to a fast start with a quick win at second doubles as Andrew Scheiner ’15 and Chris Dale ’14 finished off Skidmore’s Nick Tong and Miles Ransom 8-1. Michael Solimano ’16 and Justin Reindel ’14 kept it going with an 8-5 win over Gabe Steerman and Jonah Epstein in the No. 3 contest before Andrew Yaraghi ’16 and Joey Fritz ’14 completed the doubles sweep, outlasting the host’s top duo of Jimmy Sherpa and Danny Knight 9-7.

Yaraghi and Fritz were also effective atop the singles order, as Yaraghi moved up to the No. 1 spot for the match and handled Sherpa 6-4, 6-2 while Fritz took down Ransom in the second spot 6-4, 6-4. Alex Kim ’13 stepped in at No. 3 for Amherst and notched a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 comeback win over Knight after Russell Einbinder ’16 had stopped Steerman in the fourth match 6-4, 6-4. Skidmore (6-6) picked up its lone point when Epstein rallied to edge Scheiner in a 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 thriller, but Solimano completed the winning card for Amherst with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over Aaron Katz at No. 6.
