Kahan, Yaraghi Pace Jeffs Early at ITA Regionals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Mark Kahan and Andrew Yaraghi cruised to first-round victories in both singles and doubles action as the Amherst College men’s tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional Tournament on Friday. Two other Lord Jeffs also earned spots in the weekend’s second round of competition.
The top-ranked singles player in the 64-person field, Kahan breezed by Colby’s Sam Bachelder, 6-1, 6-0, in his opening-round match. He will square off with Pierre Planche of Bates in the second round. On the doubles side, Kahan teamed up with Russel Einbinder to take down Ford Traff and Musyoka Mbithi of Trinity, 8-3. The duo faces a challenge next, as it draws Bowdoin’s Doug Caplan and Kyle Wolstencroft, the tournament’s third-seeded pair.
Yaraghi also impressed in his opening singles match, besting MIT’s Matt Skalak, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, he and Ben Fife raced past Babson’s Ramone Doyley and Roberto Perez, 8-2.
In other singles action, Bowdoin’s Noah Bragg edged Aaron Revin, 6-7, 7-6, 10-3, and Jugal Marfatia prevailed over Einbinder, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
