Jeffs Earn 6-3 Wins Over Pomona and Westmont

AMHERST, Mass. - The fourth-ranked Amherst College men's tennis team earned 6-3 wins over 16th-ranked Pomono-Pitzer College and fifth-ranked Westmont College during second day competition in California.

The Jeffs return to the court tomorrow, Mar. 19 and are scheduled to face Chapman at 1 p.m. ET and Whittier at 2:30 p.m. ET.

In the first match of the day, the Jeffs defeated 16th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer, 6-3, to improve to 6-1 on the season in dual-matches, while dropping the Sagehens to 6-4 overall. Leading the way for Amherst was Joey Fritz ’14, Aaron Revzin ’16 and Michael Solimano ’16, with two wins each, while Russell Einbinder ’16 clinched the match from the No. 6 court.

Fritz and Justin Reindel ’14 earned an 8-2 doubles win from the No. 1 court and Revzin and Solamino defeated their opponent 8-5 on the No. 2 court as the Jeffs took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.

In singles action, Fritz cruised to wins of 6-1, 6-1 from the top spot. Solamino and Revzin picked up victories from the No. 3 and No. 5 courts, respectively. Solamino edged his competition with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) while Revzin won easily, 6-2, 6-2. Reinbinder clinched the win with scores of 6-4, 6-1 from the sixth position.

AMHERST 6, WESTMONT 3
Amherst followed up with a solid 6-3 win over No. 5 Westmont later in the day. The Jeffs took a 2-1 advantage following doubles play with wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts. Justin Hendrix '14 and Sean Rodriguez '15 claimed an 8-4 win from the two spot and Eli Mlaver '14 and Myles Tang '17 won 8-5 from the fifth position.

The bottom of the lineup excelled for the Jeffs in singles play with wins from the No. 4 through No. 6 courts. Andrew Yaraghi '16 also earned a win from the No. 2 spot, cruising to back-to-back 6-2 wins. Rodriguez and Hendrix picked up their second wins of the day from the fourth and sixth spots, respectively and Brenton Arnaboldi '14 edged out his opponent on the No. 5 court by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
