Jeffs Extend Winning Streak to Eight

Fife2.jpgAMHERST, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team extended its dual match win streak to eight following a sweep over Glendale, No. 11 Azusa Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene Thursday.
 
The Jeffs are now 12-1 overall and return to the courts tomorrow for four matches beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
 
AMHERST 8, GLENDALE 1
The Jeffs claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 courts in doubles play to take a 2-1 lead entering singles. Carlos de Bracamonte ’16 and Sam Silver ’17 earned an 8-6 win from the top spot while Birk Mitau ’16 and Philip Qu ’16 won decisively (8-2) in No. 2 doubles.
 
Amherst swept through singles play. At the top of the lineup, de Bracamonte earned another win from the No. 1 court (6-4, 6-3) and Ben Fife ’16 won easily in the No. 2 spot (6-1, 6-0). Qu and Silver took the No. 3 and No. 4 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-1, respectively. Rounding out the bottom of the order was Mitau on the No. 5 court (6-0, 7-5) and Karan Bains ’14 dropped set one from the No. 6 position but responded to take the win (4-6, 6-1, 11/9).

AMHERST 5, AZUSA PACIFIC 4
Despite falling 2-1 in doubles action, the Jeffs retaliated in singles play to edge No. 11 Azusa Pacific. Michael Solimano ’16 and Aaron Revzin ’16 picked up the lone Amherst win from No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win.
 
In singles, Anton Zykov ’17, Revzin and Justin Reindel ’14 took wins from the No. 3, 4 and 5 courts. Zykov edged his opponent 7-6, 6-3 and Revzin took both sets, 6-3. Reindel dropped the first set, 6-0, but retaliated nicely with wins of 6-2, 6-0.

AMHERST 7, POINT LOMA NAZARENE 2
The Jeffs finished the day with a 7-2 win over Point Loma Nazarene and swept through doubles action. Chris Dale ’14 and Andrew Scheiner ’15 headlined the group, earning an 8-6 win from the No. 1 court.
 
Andrew Yaraghi ’16 picked up a win from the No. 2 court (7-6, 1-6, 10/4) after earning a win from No. 3 doubles with partner Russell Einbinder ’16 (9-8). Amherst earned wins from the No. 4, 5 and 6 courts. Justin Hendrix ’14 won from No. 2 doubles (9-8) with Sean Rodriguez ’15 and also picked up a win in No. 4 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 10/8. Andrew Arnaboldi ’17 and Brenton Arnaboldi ’14 won from the No. 5 (7-6, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-3, 6-0) positions, respectively.
