Jeffs Go 3-1, Improve to 15-2

Reindel.jpgAMHERST, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst College men’s tennis team went 3-1 on the day to improve to 15-2 overall in dual-matches this season.

The fourth-ranked Jeffs saw their eight-match win streak come to an end Friday against No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Joey Fritz ’14 and Justin Reindel ’14 took the lone Amherst win in doubles action with an 8-6 victory from the No. 1 court.
 
In singles play, Chris Dale ’14 earned a win from the No. 2 spot over No. 27 Joe Dorn ’15 with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Reindel picked up his second win of the afternoon from No. 6 singles. The senior cruised to wins of 6-2 and 6-1.

Following the loss, the Jeffs responded with a 9-0 sweep over Riverside City College. Justin Hendrix '14 and Sean Rodriguez '15 took No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Brenton Arnaboldi '14 and Andrew Arnaboldi '17 took the No. 2 spot, 8-4, and on the No. 3 court, the first-year pair of Myles Tang and Sam Silver shut out their opponent with an 8-0 win.

In singles play, Andrew Arnaboldi and Brenton Arnaboldi earned their second wins of the day from the No.1 (6-1, 6-3) and No. 3 courts (6-2, 6-1), respectively. Rodriguez picked up another win from No. 2 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-3. Tang too No. 4 singles decisively (6-0, 6-0), Hendrix grabbed No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-1) and Silver took the No. 6 court (6-1, 6-3).

The Jeffs swept California Institute of Technology, 9-0. Chris Dale '14 and Andrew Scheiner '15 won No. 1 doubles, 8-6, while Joey Fritz '14 and Aaron Revzin '16 earned a decisive 8-1 win from the No. 2 court and Philip Qu '16 and Andrew Yaraghi '16 took No. 3 doubles, 8-4.

In singles action, Michael Solimano '16, Anton Zykov '17 and Yaraghi took the No. 1, 2 and 3 courts by scores of 6-2, 6-1. At the bottom of the order, Reindel cruised on the No. 4 court with wins of 6-1, 6-2, and Scheiner and Qu picked up wins from the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Scheiner won 6-4, 7-5 and Qu earned victories of 6-1, 6-4.
