Jeffs Shut Out Tufts, 9-0

MEDFORD, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team won its seventh consecutive dual match Saturday with a clean 9-0 sweep over NESCAC rival Tufts University.

The Jeffs have now swept six opponents consecutively and improved to 19-2 overall. Following the loss, the Jumbos fell to 4-3 on the year.

Amherst claimed a doubles point with seniors Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel earning an 8-6 win on the No. 1 court over Nik Telkedzhiev '16 and Brian Tan '15. Aaron Revzin ’16 and Andrew Yaraghi ’16 took No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and Michael Solimano ’17 and Chris Dale ’14 earned a decisive 8-1 win from the No. 3 position against Matt Pataro '14 and Austin Blau '14.

In singles play, Fritz, Dale and Solimano took courts No. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Fritz earned wins of 6-3, 6-2, over Telkedzhiev, while Dale claimed both sets 6-2, 6-4, against Rob Jacobson '16. Solimano cruised to wins of 6-3, 6-2 versus Brad Wong '17.

On the No. 4 court, Anton Zykov ’17 topped Tan 6-1, 6-4, while Yaraghi and Revzin earned two more wins in singles action against Blau and Kevin Kelly '17, respectively. Yaraghi won decisively, 6-1, 6-3, and Revzin took set one (6-3) before dropping set two (6-3), but retaliated nicely with a triumph in the final frame.

The Jeffs are back on the court Saturday, Apr. 5 and will host Gustavus Adolphus at 1 p.m.
