Amherst Sweeps Gustavus Adolphus, 9-0

Yaraghi3.jpgAMHERST, Mass. – With a 9-0 sweep over No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, the fourth-ranked Amherst College men’s tennis team has now swept seven straight opponents and are 20-2 overall in dual matches this season.

In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of Joey Fritz ’14 and Justin Reindel ’14 took the match, 8-4, over Mya Smith-Dennis ’14 and Motasam Al-Houni ’15. No. 2 doubles featured the pairing of Andrew Yaraghi ’16 and Michael Solimano ’16 as they edged Juan Luis Chu ’14 and Joe MacGibbon ’14, 9-7. On the No. 3 court, Chris Dale ’14 and Aaron Revzin ’16 earned a decisive 8-3 win against Marcel Gyswyt ’14 and Andres Saenz ’17.

The Jeffs cruised in singles play. Fritz played in the No. 1 spot and defeated Chu, 6-0, 6-4. Dale and Solimano took No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Dale earned wins of 6-0, 6-2 against Smith-Dennis and Solimano edged Grant Leisner ’14, 7-5, in the first set before pulling away with a 6-2 win in set two.

Anton Zykov ’17 took the No. 4 court, Yaraghi won No. 5 singles and Reindel picked up a win in the No. 6 spot. Zykov won easily by scores of 6-2 and 6-0, Yaraghi defeated Al-Houni 6-4 and 6-2 and Reindel picked up consecutive wins of 6-3.

The Jeffs return to the court tomorrow, Apr. 6 for two matches against Babson and Skidmore beginning at 12 p.m.
