Jeffs Take Two From Babson, Skidmore

AMHERST, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team improved to 22-2 on the season with a pair of wins over Babson and Skidmore on Sunday afternoon.

Defeating the Beavers, 7-2, to open the day, the Jeffs secured a 9-0 sweep over the Thoroughbreds. Extending its win streak to 10 matches, Amherst has shut out eight of its last nine opponents.  

Playing first doubles against Babson, Aaron Revzin ’16 and Andrew Yaraghi ’16 upended Roberto Perez ’16 and Victor Vu ’16, 9-7. Sean Rodriguez ’15 and Justin Hendrix ’14 defeated Isaac Thylen ’16 and Saif Rahim ’16 in the second slot, 8-3, while Carlos de Bracamonte ’16 and Russell Einbinder ’16 stopped Dom Wysolmerski ’17 and Connor DeFiore ’15, 8-1.

In singles action, Perez notched one of two Beaver victories with a 7-6, 6-0 decision over Revzin. Einbinder tripped up Vu, 6-2, 6-3, while Thylen ousted Rodriguez in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 10-8. Myles Tang ’17 recorded a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Rahim at fourth singles, while Sam Silver ’17 turned away Wysolmerski, 6-4, 6-2. Philip Qu ’16 held his own at the bottom of the order, taking care of Davin Garcia ’16, 6-1, 6-1.

Headlining doubles action against Skidmore, Joey Fritz ’14 and Justin Reindel ’14 bested Oliver Loutsenko ’14 and Danny Knight ’14, 8-3. Michael Solimano ’16 and Yaraghi recorded an 8-4 win over Jimmy Sherpa ’14 and Nick Tong ’16, while Anton Zykov ’17 and Chris Dale ’14 downed Miles Ransom ’15 and Gabe Steerman ’14 in the third spot, 8-2.

Fritz handed Sherpa a 6-1, 6-1 loss in first singles, while Dale upended Knight, 6-3, 6-2. Recovering from a 6-4 setback to Ransom in the opening frame of his third singles match, Solimano took the next two sets by scores of 6-4 and 10-4. Zykov handled Alec Hoblitzell ’15, 6-2, 6-1, while Reindel and Brenton Arnaboldi ’14 picked up victories over Steerman and Tong in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 12 at Bates.
