No. 3 Jeffs Cruise Past Conn. College, Trinity

AMHERST, Mass. – Continuing to roll, the third-ranked Amherst men’s tennis team extended its win streak to 14 matches with a pair of commanding 9-0 victories over NESCAC rivals Connecticut College and Trinity.

Improving to 26-2 (5-0 NESCAC) on the season, Amherst has now shut out 11 of its last 14 opponents. The Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Apr. 19 against conference rivals Hamilton and Wesleyan.

Against Conn. College, Anton Zykov ’17 and Andrew Arnaboldi ’17 notched an 8-2 first doubles victory over Jonathan Deeter ’16 and Jonathan Kraiger ’16. The Purple & White’s Justin Hendrix ’14 and Sean Rodriguez ’15 edged out John Cangelosi ’15 and Joshua Suneby ’15 in the second slot, 8-6, while Myles Tang ’17 and Carlos de Bracamonte ’16 handled Daniel Maffa ’17 and Douglas Butturini ’17, 8-1.

In singles play, Chris Dale ’14 secured a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 first singles win over Suneby in the only match-up that went three sets. Zykov got the better of Cangelosi, 6-0, 6-4, while Tang defeated Kraiger, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Ben Fife ’16 earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Deeter at No. 4, while Brenton Arnaboldi '14 and Karan Bains ’14 combined to drop just four games against Jonathan Sokolsky ’17 and Butturini at the bottom of the order.

Playing at Trinity, Joey Fritz ’14 and Justin Reindel ’14 secured an 8-6 first doubles victory over Daniel Carpenter ’15 and David Myers ’15. Aaron Revzin ’16 and Andrew Yaraghi ’16 took down Ford Traff ’16 and Musyoka Mbithi ’15, 8-4, while Michael Solimano ’16 and Russell Einbinder ’16 downed Ned Mandel ’16 and Jagger Riefler ’17, 8-4.

Holding his own at the top of Amherst’s singles lineup, Fritz defeated Carpenter, 6-4, 6-2. Solimano overcame Mandel, 6-2, 6-1, while Yaraghi powered past Rutendo Matingo ’17, 6-2, 6-3. Reindel blanked Mbithi, 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles, while Revzin recorded a win against Traff, 6-0, 6-4. Einbinder wrapped up singles play with a 6-1, 7-6 triumph over Aaron Segel ’16.
