Yaraghi4.jpgWILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The third-ranked Amherst College men’s tennis team edged NESCAC archrival and fifth-ranked Williams College, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon.

The Jeffs have now won 17 straight dual-matches as they improved to 29-2 overall and 8-0 in NESCAC play. With the loss, the Ephs fall to 11-5 on the year and 4-2 in league play.

Williams took the doubles point but Amherst took four of six wins in singles play to claim the win. In doubles action, Anton Zykov ’17 and Andrew Yaraghi ’16 took the No. 3 spot, 8-1.

In singles action, Chris Dale ’14 won the No. 2 court despite falling in the first set, 7-5. The senior retaliated nicely with wins of 6-1 and 6-2 in the final two sets to claim the win.

On the No. 3 court, Michael Solimano ’16 earned a decisive victory, claiming the first set 6-1 followed by a 6-3 set two.

Yaraghi and Justin Reindel ’14 claimed the fifth and sixth courts, respectively. Yaraghi cruised to wins of 6-1 and 6-1 while Reindel took the sixth position, 6-1, 6-4.

The Jeffs return to the court Saturday, Apr. 26 for their regular season finale at Middlebury beginning at 11 a.m.
