Fife and Fritz Win Doubles at ITA Regionals

Fritz.jpgMIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Ben Fife ’16 and Joey Fritz ’14 of the Amherst men’s tennis team won the doubles championship Sunday at the 2013 USTA/ITA Men’s Tennis Regional Championship, hosted by Middlebury College.

The duo, unseeded entering the tournament, met Palmer Campbell and Branter Jones of Middlebury in the finals and won the title in a hard fought matchup 6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-7.

In other doubles action, Aaron Revzin ’16 and Michael Solimano ’16 went 3-1 from the No. 1 seed before falling to Campbell and Jones, 8-5.

Fritz was the No. 1 seed in the singles bracket and picked up wins over JC Cangelosi of Connecticut College and Kevin Wang of MIT before falling to Jones 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out the top performances for Amherst was Andrew Yaraghi ’16, who went 2-1 from the No. 2 seed.

The Jeffs return to the court Sat. Oct. 5 in a dual-match against MIT.
