Matt Leitl, Assistant Coach

Entering his 10th year at Amherst, Matt Leitl returns to the courts for the 2013-14 season as Coach Garner’s top assistant. After a brief stint as Amherst’s co-head coach in the fall of 2004 and interim head coach in the winter of 2004-05, Leitl begins his ninth year as a full-time assistant. A Level 1 USPTR coach, Leitl served as head varsity boys’ coach for state runner-up Northampton (Mass.) High School in 2003 and Acton-Boxboro (Mass.) in 2004.

A private tennis coach since 1996, Leitl has trained junior players of all levels and a number of top New England and National level juniors who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. Coach Leitl is currently Director of the Pioneer Valley Junior Tennis Academy at Hampshire Athletic Club (Amherst, Mass.), and is Assistant Director of the Nike Tennis Camp at Amherst College.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisc., Leitl graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1999.
