Jordan Brewer '14 and Gabby Devlin '14, the ITA Northeast Region's top doubles team, were named first-team All-NESCAC
HADLEY, MA – Four Amherst student-athletes earned women’s tennis All-NESCAC accolades after helping the Lord Jeffs to a 16-2 overall mark, the program’s 17th berth in the NCAA Tournament and the top slot in the latest ITA Division III National Team Rankings.
First-year standouts Jordan Brewer (Woodland Hills, CA) and Gabby Devlin (McLean, VA) highlighted Amherst’s collection of honorees, garnering first-team all-conference recognition. Brewer was also named the league's Rookie of the Year, while senior Natasha Brown (Woodland Hills, CA) and junior Laura Danzig (Allendale, NY) earned second-team nods.
Brewer burst onto the scene in 2010-11, securing wins in her first 10 singles matches en route to a 15-5 overall mark. The top-ranked singles player in the Northeast Region, Brewer captured both the NEWITT title and the ITA New England Regional Championship this past fall and has headlined the Lord Jeffs line-up all spring, notching five wins in the top slot, including a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Williams’ Kristin Alotta – ranked second in the region – in the NESCAC Championship match.
The Woodland Hills, CA native, who was recently selected to the field of 32 that will compete in the NCAA's Individual Singles Tournemant, has been equally as impressive in doubles action, teaming with Devlin to form the region’s top-ranked pairing. Amherst’s dynamic duo rattled off 16 consecutive wins to start their collegiate careers before dropping their first match-up as a tandem on Mar. 18 in a showdown against Division II Lynn University’s Eleonora Iannozzi and Ioana Ivan – slotted fourth nationally. Brewer and Devlin have gone 8-1 since then as the Jeffs’ top doubles team, recently dispatching of the region’s No. 2 duo of Lucy Marchese and Nikki Reich (Williams) in the conference finals.
Brown makes her third-consecutive appearance on the All-NESCAC second-team as a doubles player, while Danzig returns to the all-league list in both singles and doubles after earning first-year honors as a sophomore. Brown compiled a 19-5 overall mark as a doubles player this season, including a 10-1 record in dual matches, having won her last four outings from the second slot with teammate Mimi Bell ’11 (Cleveland, OH).
The region’s eighth-ranked singles player, Danzig recorded 10 wins in 2010-11, going 6-4 at first and second singles this spring. The Allendale, NY native also amassed a 16-6 mark in doubles action, going 8-2 since Mar. 15, while winning five of her last six at first and second doubles.
