Amherst Improves Conference Record to 7-1 with 3-0 Win Over Trinity

HARTFORD, CT – Amherst College senior tri-captain Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) had 14 kills and a pair of aces to lead the Lord Jeffs to a 3-0 win over the Trinity College Bantams in NESCAC volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 17-8 overall and 3-4 in the NESCAC with its first loss in six matches, while Amherst, ranked No. 1 in New England, improves to 23-3 with its third win in a row.
Amherst pulled out the first game, 32-30, in a back-and-forth affair that saw neither team hold more than a four-point lead at any time. The Jeffs scored nine straight points in the middle of the second game to take a 23-11 lead and held on for a 30-24 win. Amherst led 20-19 late in the third game and scored 10 of the match's final 12 points for a 30-21 triumph.
Junior Sara Heller (LaCanada, CA) notched 44 assists for Amherst, while first-year Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) added 21 digs and senior tri-captain Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) had a match-high 16 kills.
Junior Nicole Cahill paced the Bantams with 12 kills, three aces and two blocks, while classmate Lisa Esposito had eight kills and three blocks, and senior tri-captain Katie Lenz finished with 17 digs.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Friday for an 8 p.m. match with Colby College.
