Amherst Finishes Fourth at Hall of Fame Classic

NORTHAMPTON, MA – The Amherst College volleyball team placed fourth in a field of 16 teams at the 2008 Hall of Fame Classic Tournament held at Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges. The Lord Jeffs defeated archrival Williams College Friday night before suffering a pair of hard-fought 3-2 losses to Tufts University and Wellesley College. First-year Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) represented Amherst on the All-Tournament Team.

In the final day of the tournament, the Pride of Springfield defeated the Jumbos of Tufts University 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11) in a fitting Gold Bracket championship finals. The Pride were led by Tournament MVP Heather Lively. Finishing in second place was Tufts, followed by Wellesley, who defeated Amherst 3-2 (25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 29-31, 17-15) to round out the tournament's top three finishers.

In the Silver Bracket, Middlebury defeated Gordon 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-11) in the Silver Bracket's championship match. Lindsay Patterson of Middlebury was named the Silver Bracket's MVP. Wheaton defeated Colby 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20) to claim third place in the bracket.
