Lord Jeffs Take NESCAC Opener 3-1 Over Colby

LEWISTON, ME - The Amherst College volleyball team opened up the 2009 NESCAC season this evening with a 3-1 win over Colby College on the campus of host Bates College. Amherst improves to 4-1 (1-0 NESCAC) overall this season, and will face the host Bobcats tomorrow afternoon.
Amherst was able to pull out the win over Colby with a trio of players registering double-digits in kills. Sophomore Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) had a team-high 16 kills, with classmate Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) close behind with 14 kills of her own. Junior middle-hitter Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) chipped in with 10 kills as well. The Jeffs also got seven kills from rookie Emily Waterhouse (Sherman Oaks, CA), while junior Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA) dished out 40 helpers in the match.
Lord Jeff junior tri-captain Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) had a solid all-around effort with three kills, two blocks and two aces in the match. Senior tri-captain Bethany Belisle (Austin, TX) had a team-high 17 digs, with junior Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) and first-year Kristin Keeno (Honolulu, HI) adding 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
Amherst will remain in Lewiston overnight, and take on the Bobcats tomorrow at 11 a.m. before returning to Amherst.
