Amherst Falls in Four Sets to Connecticut College

HARTFORD, CT - The Amherst College volleyball team opened up a weekend of NESCAC competition this evening with a match against conference rival Connecticut College on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. The Camels edged the Lord Jeffs 3-1, taking the win 25-20, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-21 to drop Amherst to 15-4 overall and 4-2 in NESCAC play.
Amherst's offense was led by Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) and Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) with 11 kills apiece. Junior Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) played very well at the middle hitter position with seven kills and four blocks. Fellow junior Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) chipped in with 11 digs and a trio of service aces.
Junior tri-captain Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) had 32 digs to lead the Amherst defense, while classmate and fellow captain Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) added four kills. Callie Neilson (Escondido, CA) dished out 13 assists in the first two sets before giving way to Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA), who added another 22 assists in the third and fourth sets.
Amherst will continue play at Trinity tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. match against NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University. The Jeffs will return home tomorrow afternoon, but return to Trinity on Wednesday to play the Bantams at 7 p.m.
