WELLESLEY, MA – The Amherst College volleyball team ousted NESCAC and Little Three archrival Wesleyan University 3-0 this afternoon in non-conference action at day two of the Wellesley Quad. Amherst will return home with a perfect 2-0 record intact after winning its season opener yesterday against the hosts from Wellesley.

For the second straight match to open the 2010 season, Amherst won its match 3-0 with commanding wins in the first and third sets and a close score in the middle frame. Amherst won 25-18, 33-31, 25-17 over the Cardinals.

Using a balanced attack with at least four players banging home six or more kills, Amherst overpowered Wesleyan. Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) led the offense with nine kills, while senior tri-captains Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) and Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) had eight kills apiece. Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) had six kills, with a pair of solo blocks and a pair of blocking assists. Mary Reiser (New York, NY) chipped in with three kills, and one solo and one assist block.

Sophomore Callie Neilson (Escondido, CA) had 28 helpers in the win, while seniors Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) and Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) had 28 digs apiece. Sophomore Kristin Keeno (Honolulu, HI) had 17 digs, while rookie Devin Pence (Los Angeles, CA) had 14 digs in the effort.

Amherst will open up its 2010 home schedule on Tuesday night when Emerson comes to town at 7 p.m.
