Jeffs Open Weekend with 3-0 Win at Bates

LEWISTON, ME – The Amherst College volleyball team increased its winning streak to six matches with a 3-0 win at Bates College's Alumni Gymnasium Friday evening. The Lord Jeffs, who improve to 9-1 (1-1 NESCAC) with their first conference win of the season, will take on Colby College Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bates.

Ranked seventh in this week’s New England Women’s Volleyball Association Regional Poll, Amherst cruised past the Bobcats (5-8, 0-3 NESCAC) by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14. The Jeffs are 7-0 in their past seven meetings with Bates.

Mary Reiser ’12 (New York, NY) finished with two block assists and a team-high eight kills for Amherst. Katherine Kanoff ’12 (Pacific Palisades, CA) and Cristy Meier ’12 (San Anselmo, CA) had seven kills apiece, with Kanoff adding three service aces. Callie Neilson ’13 (Escondido, CA) dished out 34 assists.

Senior tri-captains Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA), Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) and Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) all played well for the Jeffs. Yorke led the team with 20 digs, while Berkley and Hyman combined for 11 kills. Hyman and Meier also had two solo blocks apiece.

Rounding out Amherst's leaders were Erin Camp ’11 (Santa Monica, CA) and Devin Pence ’14 (Los Angeles, CA), who had 11 and eight digs, respectively.
