Jeffs Top Westfield State 3-0 for 11th Consecutive Victory

WESTFIELD, MA – The Amherst College volleyball team swept Westfield State University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) in non-conference action this evening. The win over the Owls was the second of the season for the Lord Jeffs, with the team winning its 11th straight match.
Amherst boosted its record to 14-1 with tonight’s victory. The Jeffs also defeated Westfield, 3-1, earlier this season. The Owls are 13-10 heading into Saturday’s key conference tri-match vs. Worcester State and Framingham State.
Amherst junior hitter Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills, followed by Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) with nine kills and one block, and Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) with eight kills.
Leading the Lord Jeffs defensively were Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) with 13 digs, while Devin Pence (Los Angeles, CA) and Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) added 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Callie Neilson (Escondido, CA) handed out a game-high 33 assists, while Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) had three blocks and two kills.
Kerin DeGirolamo – the reigning MASCAC player of the week – led Westfield with 21 assists, six digs, two aces, and one block. Rachel Ryan ripped eight kills and Julia Warner registered six kills and one aces. Kelsey Leonard and Alyssa Stankowski led the Owls with four blocks and 11 digs, respectively.
