Ahern Paces Jeffs in Win Over JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Lizzie Ahern ’16 hammered home a match-high 17 kills, while picking up 10 digs to lead the Amherst women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20) win over Johnson & Wales.

Snapping a two-game skid, the Jeffs improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 3-10 on the year.

Holding the home team to a .067 attack rate in the first, Amherst took an early lead with a 25-20 victory. Hitting a match-high .241 in the second, the visitors earned a 25-21 triumph, but JWU battled back, notching a 25-22 victory the following frame. Hoping to close things out, the Jeffs limited the Wildcats to a .176 hitting percentage in the fourth en route to a five-point win.

Abigail Hunter ’13 and Lauren Antion ’15 each tallied eight kills, while Katie Warshaw ’16 collected a team-high 18 digs. Nicole Carter ’16 chipped in with 31 assists, while Emily Waterhouse ’13 finished with six kills, six assists and 15 digs.

Karlie Haack ’13 was the lone Wildcat to register double-digit kills with 13. Giselle Cram-Ortiz ’14 dug out 21 balls, while Kasey Higgins ’13 and Alyssa Drapeau ’15 dished out 21 and 17 helpers, respectively.

Amherst returns to action on Friday, Sept. 21 against Trinity.
