Amherst Falls to Skidmore, 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. - Despite first-year setter Nicole Carter’s match-high 30 assists, the Amherst women’s volleyball team fell to 5-3 on the season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) loss to visiting Skidmore College at LeFrak Gymnasium.

Hitting .385 to open the match, Skidmore squeaked out a 25-23 first set win, before holding the Jeffs to a .129 attack rate in a 25-16 triumph. Amherst hoped to rally in the third, but the Thoroughbreds did just enough to hold on, securing a 25-23 victory to cap off the sweep.

Lizzie Ahern ’16 paced the Amherst offense with 10 kills, hitting .308, while Abigail Hunter ’13 and Lauren Antion ’15 combined for 17 kills. Kristin Keeno ’13 and Kelsey Ayers ’15 chipped in with seven and six digs, respectively.

Aria Goodman ’15 paved the way for the Skidmore offense, recording nine kills on just 15 swings with no errors (.600), while Connie Palmer ’13 added eight kills, after hitting .412. Mallory Mendelsohn ’13 picked up 22 assists, while Sam Friedman ’13 and Emma Wilberg ’14 had 20 and 10 digs, respectively.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Hamilton.
