Ahern Named Player of the Week

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - For the second time this season, Lizzie Ahern ’16 has been named the NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week, after helping Amherst to a 3-0 stretch that included big wins over rivals Middlebury and Williams.
Averaging 3.85 kills, while hitting .363, Ahern amassed a team-best 50 kills, while gathering 10 digs, five blocks and three service aces. Opening the week at Westfield State, she hammered home 18 spikes, while hitting .548 to help the Jeffs to a 3-1 victory.
Squaring off with second-place Middlebury on Friday, she registered 19 kills, while hitting .311 with four blocks and four digs, lifting Amherst to a 3-2 upset win. Closing out the week against first-place Williams, she finished with 13 kills and four digs en route to a 3-1 Jeff victory.
Leading Amherst in kills in 12 of the team’s 15 matches, she currently tops the NESCAC in kills per set (3.52), while ranking fourth in hitting percentage (.292). Also averaging 1.29 digs per game, she sits tied for third on the squad in blocks with 27.
