Danner3.jpgWORCESTER, Mass. – The Amherst women’s volleyball team swept both contests Saturday by scores of 3-0 as the Jeffs claimed their seventh-and eighth-consecutive wins over Simmons College and host Clark University respectively on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The Jeffs have swept their previous six opponents and seven of their last eight as they improved to 16-5 overall.

Amherst 3, Simmons 0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-12)

The Jeffs breezed to an easy 3-0 win with game scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-12. Nicole Gould ’17 was dominant in the contest, collecting a match-high 11 kills on a sizzling.769 hitting percentage.

In addition to Gould’s huge outing, Maggie Danner ’17 and Lauren Antion ’15 combined for 15 kills as Amherst hit .307 as a team.

The Jeffs were excellent on the serve, recording 11 service aces, with Antion and Nicole Carter ’16 each posting three. 

Rossi Fish ’14 and Megan Chamberlain ’14 led the way for the Sharks (8-21) offensively with four kills apiece.

Amherst 3, Clark 0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21)

Amherst completed the afternoon sweep with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 win over the host Cougars (10-13).

Danner registered 13 kills on .522 hitting for the Jeffs, while Antion tacked on ten of her own. 

Carter had a strong showing for Amherst, totaling 29 assists and seven digs and Katie Warshaw ’16 chipped in with 15 digs.

Clark was paced offensively by Savonnah Rowe ’15, who tallied seven kills, while Anne Read ’16 had five of her own.

Rachel Spera ’14 dished out 21 assists and Savannah Sanford ’14 had a team-best 11 digs.

The Jeffs return to the court Friday, Oct. 25 and will compete in the Hall of Fame Tournament starting at 5 p.m.
