Danner Named All-NESCAC First Team Selection

AMHERST, Mass. – First-year outside hitter Maggie Danner of the Amherst women’s volleyball team was named an All-NESCAC First Team selection on Wednesday, as selected by the league’s coaches.
Danner was instrumental in the team’s success this season during a year in which they finished 20-8 overall and 7-3 in the NESCAC to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. In her first NESCAC Championship, she tallied consecutive double-digit kill performances including a double-double outing in a 3-1 win over Middlebury in the quarterfinals with 14 kills and 11 digs.
The Newport Beach, Calif. native excelled in her first season donning the Purple & White and led the Jeffs in kills and ranked sixth among league leaders with an average of 3.32 per set. She totaled 315 on the season and notched double-digit numbers in 18 of the team’s 28 games, including 17 in the last 19 as Amherst went 14-5 down the stretch.
The first-year outside hitter tallied seven double-doubles on the season and recorded four in the team’s last six games. On Nov. 1 she posted a team and season-high 22 kills while adding 14 digs in a 4-1 win over Wesleyan. She also posted the team’s highest hitting percentage in a match with a .522 mark (13-1-23) in a sweep against Clark and her six total blocks against Wellesley on Oct. 25 marked the second highest by a Jeff player all season.
Danner was also named the NESCAC Player of the Week on Oct. 15 during a 3-0 week in which she averaged 4.22 kills per set. She finished the season with a team-best 3.32 kills per set and ranked fourth in digs with an average of 2.37.
