Lord Jeffs Playing in Top Summer Leagues

AMHERST, Mass. - After leading the Lord Jeffs to a third consecutive 20-win season, every member of the Amherst College baseball team joined a roster to continue competing this summer. Here's a look at some of the Jeffs who are playing in the top leagues across the country.

Shepard

#30 Fred Shepard '14 - LHP
Cape Cod Baseball League (Wareham Gatemen)

After going 5-1 for the Lord Jeffs in the spring, Fred brought his talents to the most prestigious summer baseball league in the country. He picked up the win in his first start of the summer, leading the Gatemen to a 12-3 victory over Cotuit with a solid pitching line (5.0, 0ER, 5H, 6K, 2BB).

#14 Bob Cook '13 - RHP/IF
New England Collegiate Baseball League (Mystic Schooners)

The 2012 NESCAC Player of the Year is getting the job done for the Schooners on the mound and in the batter's box. In addition to getting a base hit in four of his first five games, Bob pitched well in a 7-5 win over Laconia on June 15 (6.0, ER, 6H, 5K, 0BB).

#7 Alex Hero '14 - OF
Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (Westhampton Aviators)

After hitting well above .300 for Amherst in his first two seasons, Alex is on pace to do the same for the Aviators. It took a few games to find his footing, but he hit .448 (13-for-29) with a home run during a dominant nine-game stretch from June 12-24.

#4 Taiki Kasuga '14 - IF
Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League (Oahu Paddlers)

One of Amherst's best hitters of the past two years, Taiki has the difficult task of playing baseball in Hawaii for the summer. After going 2-for-4 with three runs scored in his debut with the Paddlers, he followed with a three-hit, three-RBI performance a week later.

#15 Quinn Saunders-Kolberg '14 - LHP/OF
Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (Rockville Express)

Quinn hit .364 and boasted a 1.50 ERA for the Jeffs in 2012, and he has carried that success into the summer. In addition to going 1-for-4 with an RBI in a 5-4 win over Alexandria on June 11, he posted dominant pitching statistics in his first four appearances (7.1, 0R, 3H, 8K, 3BB).

Adamski

Bryan Adamski - Coach
New England Collegiate Baseball League (North Adams Steeplecats)

After helping the Jeffs lead the NESCAC West in ERA as the team's pitching coach, Adamski turned his attention to the NECBL as the newest manager of the North Adams Steeplecats. Through June 25, the Steeplecats were only a half game back in the Western Division.
