Cook Named NESCAC Pitcher of the Week

HADLEY, Mass. – John Cook ’15 of the Amherst College baseball team earned NESCAC Pitcher of the Week laurels for his stellar performance in a 2-1 win against Middlebury, as announced by the league office.
The southpaw from Winnetka, Ill. made one appearance last week and made the best of his start on the mound. Cook tossed a complete, 10 inning game as the Amherst bats pulled through to edge its NESCAC rival on the road.
In the start, Cook allowed just five hits and one earned run. He struck out seven batters and walked one to improve to 3-2 on the year with a 2.83 earned run average. The junior currently leads the team in strikeouts, fanning 46 batters while allowing just three walks.
Amherst went 4-1 last week to improve to 21-5 overall this season with a 7-1 NESCAC West mark. Since returning north from its spring break trip, the Jeffs have gone 12-2. They return to action Wednesday, Apr. 23 to face Hamilton in a make-up game at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, N.Y. at 7 p.m.
