AMHERST, Mass. – Quinn Moroney ’16 of the 17th-ranked Amherst men’s lacrosse team earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors after helping the Jeffs to a pair of wins over No. 16 Springfield and archrival Williams.
Racking up 12 points, the standout sophomore dished out six assists against the Pride before handing out another six helpers against the Ephs to up his season total to 60. Having also recorded 21 goals, Moroney’s 81 points are the most in Amherst’s modern era since Derek Cherney ’07 amassed 68 during the 2005 campaign. Through 14 games, he currently leads the nation in assists per outing (4.29), while sitting tied for third in Division III in points per contest (5.79).
Playing a vital role in the Purple & White’s upset victory over regional rival Springfield, Moroney notched a pair of first half assists, but the Jeffs still trailed at the intermission, 8-5. With Amherst battling back and tying the game at 9-9, Moroney assisted on four-consecutive tallies over a stretch of 3:27 spanning the third and fourth quarters to give the Jeffs a 13-9 edge they would not relinquish.
Against Williams, Moroney continued to serve as the catalyst for the Amherst attack, dishing out four helpers in a closely contested first half. One of the driving forces during the Purple & White’s big 5-0 third quarter run, he fed teammate Chris Albanese ’17 for a pair of man-up goals.
Moroney and the Jeffs return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 23, closing out the regular season on Pratt Field against Trinity at 4:30 p.m.
