Amy Craig Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College junior Amy Craig (Denver, CO) was named the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for tallying 11 goals and adding an assist during a 2-0 week for the Lord Jeffs. This marks the third Player of the Week honor of Craig’s career and the second of the 2008 season.

Amherst took on then-seventh-ranked Babson College on Thursday and pulled off an impressive 12-8 upset on the road, with Craig netting her team’s first three goals of the game as part of a five-goal effort. During the Jeffs’ 9-8 overtime victory over Connecticut College on Saturday, Craig added another six goals and an assist, including the game-tying goal late in regulation and the eventual game-winner in overtime.

Sharing the Player of the Week honor with Craig is Trinity’s Jenn Calver, who had 10 goals and an assist during an impressive 2-0 week for the Bantams.

Craig’s 25 goals are the most on her team and are tied for the most in the NESCAC, with four of her scores coming in game-winning fashion. As a sophomore, Craig led the NESCAC with 53 goals and earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. She has scored 115 goals in 41 career games with Amherst while amassing an impressive shooting percentage of .520.

The Jeffs (7-0) jumped to the No. 8 spot in the most recent Inside Lacrosse rankings but have a difficult road ahead. Amherst will take on 11th-ranked Trinity on the road this Wednesday before heading to seventh-ranked Middlebury on Saturday for a crucial NESCAC matchup, and will then travel to face archrival Williams the following Saturday. Craig and the Jeffs do not return to Gooding Field until Thursday, Apr. 17.
