AMHERST, MA – The IWLCA and US Lacrosse have honored 48 student-athletes in Division III with a selection on one of the All-American teams. Three Lord Jeff women’s lacrosse players earned spots on the Second Team, while a fourth teammate landed on the Third Team. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 14, 2008 in King of Prussia, PA.

Just one year after Amherst missed out on the NCAA Tournament, and IWLCA national honors, seniors Linda McEvoy (Rochester, NY) and Maddie Hoeg (Shoreham, NY), and juniors Amy Craig (Denver, CO) and Catherine Calvert (Lawrenceville, NJ) all grabbed recognition on the highest stage. McEvoy, Craig and Calvert found spots on the Second Team, while Hoeg was named to the Third Team.

McEvoy, a captain and goalkeeper, can be considered the second-best goalie in the NCAA Division III this year after grabbing her most recent honor. She was dominant in the cage this season with a 15-4 overall record, a .529 save percentage, and a 7.87 goals-against-average.

Joining McEvoy are Craig and Calvert, who combine to cover nearly the entire field for Amherst. Craig was a potent attacker, who led the 2008 Lord Jeffs with 51 goals and eight assists for 59 points. Craig also performed in the most crucial times, as she netted six game-winning goals.

Calvert was one of the Amherst’s top defenders this season, and had a great year, which has landed her on the NESCAC All-Conference First Team, and IWLCA All-Region First Team. Calvert paced the Jeffs in both ground balls (49) and caused turnovers (26), while finishing with the second-lowest total fouls for any starting defender (19).

Hoeg, a senior tri-captain, rounds out the group with a Second Team All-American nod. In what can surely be considered a breakout season, Hoeg netter 48 points this year on 38 goals, and 10 assists. After totaling 64 points in the previous three seasons, Hoeg exploded onto the scene this year to go above the 100-point mark for her career (112).
