W-Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - With a strong showing in the distance events, the Amherst women’s track and field team placed seventh out of 23 Division I, II and III programs at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic.
Finishing nearly a minute and a half ahead of her closest competitor, Sarah Daly '13 set the pace in the 10,000m run with a time of 37:15.11. Jessie Kaliski '15 came in third (39:12.24), followed by teammate Elodie Reed '13 in fourth (39:48.34).
With an equally dominating effort in the 5,000-meter event, Keri Lambert ’13 finished almost 47 seconds ahead (17:03.87) of Tufts’ Lilly Fisher (17:50.67) to lay claim to one of Amherst’s two individual wins. Lizzy Briskin '15 also turned in a solid showing, placing eighth with a time of 18:20.78, while Caroline Rose '16 came in 11th (18:44.58).
Lauren Almeida finished third in the 800m run, clocking in at 2:20.74, while Abraelle Shirley was ninth (26:56) out of 71 competitors in the 200m dash. Jasmine Green '16 and Kathleen Hurt '15 ensured two more top-10 places for the Jeffs, coming in eighth (1:10.90) and ninth (1:11.65), respectively, in the 400m hurdles.
In the field events, Taylor Summers '16 posted a third-place finish in the long jump (5.10m), while Naomi Bates '14 was third in the triple jump (10.88m). Jess Mueller' 13 also did well in the event, placing 11th (10.28m).
Host Tufts won the team title with 124 points, followed by Boston College (80), Northeastern (71), Worcester State (66.50) and Harvard (57) in the top-five. Wheaton (54), Amherst (51) and Brown (50) finished sixth through eighth, while Merrimack (45) and Holy Cross (34.50) rounded out the top-10.
