LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Amherst College softball outfielder Kaitlin Silkowitz ’14 added another honor to her impressive resume, earning a spot on the recently-announced National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) New England Division III All-Region First Team.
One of just four outfielders on the 15-person top squad, Silkowitz joins Wesleyan’s Allee Beatty, Middlebury’s Jessa Hoffman and Tufts’ Alysson Fournier, Johanna Clair and Emily Beinecke as a strong NESCAC contingent on the first team. Melissa Dellatore of Bowdoin and Sara Hedtler of Tufts were second-team picks along with Hamilton’s Olivia Gozdz and Middlebury’s Jess Poracky.
Silkowitz adds the All-Region nod to her 2013 First Team All-NESCAC honor, becoming the third Jeff in two years to earn a spot on both the conference and regional first teams after Theresa Kelley ’13 and Donna Leet '15 did so in 2012. Also a standout in the classroom, Silkowitz has earned a pair of Academic All-District awards.
A fixture in the two-hole for Amherst, the Scarsdale, N.Y. native led the NESCAC in batting average (.478) and on-base percentage (.524) during her oustanding junior season, helping Amherst to a 24-12 overall record. Opening the year on a 20-game hit streak, she had a hit in all but four of her 36 appearances, while reaching base in all but two games.
Ranked second in the league in hits (54), Silkowitz finished third in stolen bases (19) and sixth in runs scored (36). A staple in the Jeff lineup since her arrival, she will enter her senior season as a career .389 hitter with 137 hits, 98 runs, 30 RBI and 52 stolen bases.
