Walters Grabs Second NESCAC Player of the Week Award
Senior Fletcher Walters grabbed his third career Player of the Week Award this afternoon.
AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior Fletcher Walters (Ann Arbor, MI) was named the NESCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this afternoon. Walters averaged 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, as he led the Lord Jeffs to victories over Colby College and Bowdoin College this past weekend.
Walters recorded his fifth double-double of the season on Friday, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, in a 72-66 victory over Colby. He was 4-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from the foul line.
The Lord Jeffs extended their lead in the NESCAC standings on Saturday with an 85-79 victory over second-place Bowdoin at home. Walters barely missed as he finished with a career-high 26 points to go along with nine boards. He made eight of his 11 shots and was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and also made six of seven from the charity stripe.
Walters is averaging 13.1 points per game, which is good enough for 14th in the NESCAC. He is among the leaders in rebounds with 6.8 per game, and is shooting .511 from the floor and .814 from the foul line. Walters has also played great defensively, as he is leading the team in steals (28) and is tied for second in blocked shots (21).
This is the second time this season the Walters had been recognized by the NESCAC, as he was named Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 14. He also received the award last season as a junior. Walters and the Lord Jeffs return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Rhode Island College at home.
