Brian Baskauskas Named NESCAC Player of the Week
Senior Brian Baskauskas has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week twice in his career.
Baskauskas averaged 21.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last week while shooting 69.4 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from beyond the arc. After leading the Jeffs to wins over Lasell and Springfield, the senior co-captain poured in a career-high 30 points on 12-of-15 shooting against Westfield State to earn MVP honors at the Pioneer Valley Classic.
Entering this week, Baskauskas is fourth in the NESCAC in scoring (17.5 ppg) with the fifth highest field goal percentage (.575) and 10th best mark from three-point range (.480). He has been just as impressive on the defensive end, as his 1.33 steals-per-game average is tied for eighth best in the conference. Baskauskas also boasts an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.6, which is the second highest in the NESCAC.
Baskauskas begins the week with 861 career points, just 139 shy of becoming the 23rd player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Amherst is off to another impressive start as the only remaining unbeaten team in the NESCAC (6-0). The Lord Jeffs lead the conference in scoring average (89.3 ppg) and field goal percentage (.496), and are second in field goal percentage defense (.380) and rebounding margin (+8.8).
Baskauskas and the Lord Jeffs return to action Tuesday, Dec. 9, when they take on Emmanuel College at 7 p.m. on the road.
