#17 Amherst Returns With 82-57 Win at Johnson & Wales

N. MIAMI, FL – The 17th-ranked Amherst College men’s basketball team returned to action this afternoon with an 82-57 win at North Miami’s Johnson and Wales University. The Lord Jeffs improve to a perfect 10-0 on the season, and will return to campus to open up Little Three play with non-conference games against Wesleyan and Williams in the next 10 days.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Lord Jeffs, which led by 17 points at the half. Amherst used a 40-27 margin in rebounding to power the win, shooting 54% from the floor, including 38% from behind the arc. The Jeffs finished the night shooting 80% from the charity stripe as well.

Junior Jeff Holmes (Saunderstown, RI) led Amherst with 14 points and six rebounds on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting performance. Sophomore Willy Workman (Northampton, MA) scored 10 points, while adding six rebounds and five assists in the win.

Taylor Barrise (Allendale, NJ) scored 11 points in the win, while senior co-captain Conor Meehan (Meriden, CT) chipped in with 12 points and three boards. Sophomore Allen Williamson (Saugus, MA) scored nine points in 14 minutes off the bench.

Carlos Montilla was the only Johnson and Wales player to reach double-digits, scoring 12 points in the loss as Amherst led the entire game.

After returning home, Amherst will take on Wesleyan on Wednesday evening at home for a 6 p.m. game. The annual doubleheader against Williams will begin on Saturday, January 8th at 2 p.m. with the men’s teams playing before the women’s teams at LeFrak Gymnasium.
