Toomey Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

Aaron Toomey '14 averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of wins over Wesleyan and Conn. College.

HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Aaron Toomey (Greensboro, N.C.) has been named the NESCAC Co-Player of the Week after helping the sixth-ranked Amherst College men’s basketball team to a pair of wins over conference rivals Wesleyan and Connecticut College.

Accounting for 10 of Amherst’s final 14 points in a 66-64 win over the Cardinals, Toomey iced the game, going 2-for-2 from the line with just three seconds remaining in regulation. The Greensboro, N.C. native, who went 15-for-18 from the charity stripe, finished with 22 points in the victory, going 3-for-5 from the field, while adding three assists and a pair of steals.

In a 74-62 win over the Camels, Toomey matched a career-high with 23 points, pouring in 16 in the first half before dishing out six assists in the second. He played an integral role in helping the Jeffs maintain their lead in the final minutes, scoring all seven of his team’s points during a 2:10 stretch and finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the line with seven assists, two rebounds and three steals.

Averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from the floor and 88.9 percent (24-for-27) at the line, Toomey helped increase the Jeffs’ home win streak to 22 games.
