SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Aaron Toomey ’14 has been named the NESCAC men’s basketball Player of the Week after helping the Lord Jeffs to wins over Wesleyan, Bowdoin and Colby.

Hitting just one of his five field-goal attempts against the Cardinals, Toomey made good on his opportunities at the free throw line, knocking down all six tries from the charity stripe, including four in the final 3:42 to help Amherst hold onto an eight-point victory. Finishing with nine points, he also dished out six assists, while committing just two turnovers.

Putting together another solid game against the Polar Bears, Toomey connected on three of his six field-goal attempts, including two of four shots from behind the arc. Finishing with 12 points in 32 minutes, he was once again perfect from the line (4-for-4), while grabbing five rebounds.

Closing out the week against the Mules, the Greensboro, N.C. native enjoyed arguably his best game of the season, erupting for 34 points, with six assists, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Shooting a remarkable 13-for-16 from the floor, he hit six of eight attempts from long distance, falling one trey shy of matching a career-high. The junior’s 34 points also represented a career-best, matching his output in last year’s second round NCAA Tournament game against NYU.

Shooting 62.9 percent (17-for-27) from the field and 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from three-point range while averaging 18.3 points, 4.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds during the week, Toomey currently leads the team in scoring (15.4), while ranking third in the NESCAC in assists (4.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6).
