SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Aaron Toomey ’14 has been named the NESCAC men’s basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season after helping the Jeffs to a pair of wins over Middlebury and Colby College.

Overcoming an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance (5-for-24) in Amherst’s regular season finale at No. 3 Middlebury, Toomey regrouped and came through when it mattered most, draining the game winning three-pointer with 2.9 seconds left in the third overtime to lift the Jeffs to a thrilling 104-101 victory. Scoring nine of his 16 points during the extra sessions, Toomey added eight assists, four rebounds and three steals to help the Purple & White clinch the top seed in the NESCAC Championships.

Pouring in 28 points, the point guard shined in Saturday’s quarterfinal showdown with the Mules, knocking down nine of his 16 shot attempts. Draining a career-high eight three-pointers, Toomey also pulled down seven rebounds while dishing out six assists in Amherst’s 83-52 triumph.

Shooting nearly 44 percent from three-point range, the junior averaged 22 points, seven helpers and 5.5 boards during the week and on the season he currently ranks second in the league in assists per game (5.1) and third in scoring (17.8 ppg).
