AMHERST, Mass. - Fresh off a stellar sophomore campaign, Aaron Toomey ’14 picked up men’s basketball’s first award of the season, garnering recognition on the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America first team.

The lone NESCAC representative on D3hoops’ five All-America squads, Toomey is just one of 25 Division III student-athletes nationwide to be honored.

A D3hoops.com and NABC All-Region and All-District selection a year ago, the Amherst point guard ranked amongst the conference leaders in scoring (3rd, 17.9), assists (2nd, 4.82), steals (2nd, 1.82) and free throw percentage (2nd, .910). Also a first team All-NESCAC pick in 2011-12, Toomey set program records for free throws made and foul shooting percentage, hitting 182-of-200 attempts, with his .910 clip ranking fourth nationally.

Scoring at least 20 points 13 times in last season, he notably put up 34 points in an NCAA Tournament victory over New York University. Totaling 23 points and 10 assists, while going 8-of-12 from the field against Bowdoin, he recorded at least five assists in 15 games.

Finishing with a 26-3 (10-0 NESCAC) record while advancing to the third round of the NCAA Championship, Amherst enters 2012-13 ranked fifth in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top-25.
