Toomey Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – Aaron Toomey ’14 of the eighth-ranked Amherst men’s basketball team was honored by the conference office on Monday, earning NESCAC Player of the Week laurels for his stellar play in three straight wins.
The reigning NABC National Player of the Year averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds as the Jeffs went 3-0 on the week. He opened the three-game slate with a 6-for-12 performance from the field against Eastern Connecticut State. Toomey finished with 18 points, five assists and three rebounds in the 94-81 home victory.
The senior guard followed up with a game-high 26-point showing against Hamilton on 12-of-13 shooting from the charity stripe. He also dished out a game-high nine assists and pulled in three boards as Amherst cruised to a 91-73 win its in NESCAC opener against the Continentals.
Toomey concluded the week with another impressive game against archrival Williams. He finished with a double-double on 16 points and 10 assists, two shy of tying a career-high, as the Jeffs held on to defeat the fifth-ranked Ephs, 84-73.
The Jeffs will now play eight of their next nine games on the road, beginning with a match-up at Little Three rival Wesleyan on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
