AMHERST, Mass. - Aaron Toomey ’14 picked up his second-consecutive NESCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor after helping the Jeffs to wins over Wesleyan, Tufts and Bates.

The senior point guard began the week with a 16-point, six-rebound, three-steal, three-assist effort in a 76-62 victory over the Cardinals. Knocking down 6-of-8 free throws, he finished 4-of-9 from the field.

Rebounding after a slow start at Tufts, Toomey netted 22 of his game-high 28 points in the second half, while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Entering the game just 21 points shy of tying the program’s scoring record formerly held by Steve Zieja ’03 (1,708), the senior connected on a pair from the charity stripe with 3:40 remaining in regulation to surpass the mark.

Hitting 17-of-18 attempts from the line, Toomey fell one made free throw shy of tying the Jeffs’ single-game record. Already Amherst’s single-season leader in free throws made (182) and free throw percentage (.910), the reigning NABC National Player of the Year now also holds the team’s career free throw (518), three point (240) and points (1,734) marks.

Toomey closed out the week by turning in a stellar all-around performance against Bates. Scoring 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, he also grabbed seven boards, while dishing out six assists.

Amherst returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Williams.
