Leyman Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore Sarah Leyman (Cincinnati, OH) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for putting in a pair of outstanding performances for the Lord Jeffs this past weekend. Senior Kim Moynihan of Tufts University joins Leyman as the other honoree.

Leyman averaged 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 76.5 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent from the line during a 1-1 weekend for Amherst. After she scored 18 points on 6-for-6 shooting and added five rebounds and three assists in a 63-61 loss to Bowdoin College, Leyman recorded a career-high 22 points and matched her career high in rebounds (11) to lead the Jeffs to a thrilling 65-64 win over Colby.

Through the first 20 games of the season, Leyman and classmate Jaci Daigneault lead Amherst in scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg). In addition to shooting 70 percent from the line, Leyman is second in the conference in field goal percentage (.531). In Amherst’s five conference games alone, Leyman is averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting at a .588 clip.

This is the first NESCAC honor of Leyman’s career and the second time this season an Amherst player has been named Player of the Week. The Lord Jeffs return to action Friday, Feb. 6, when they host Bates College at 7 p.m.
