Daigneault Once Again Named Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – For the second time this season, Amherst College sophomore Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. After claiming the honor last week, Daigneault continued her impressive season by leading the Lord Jeffs to a pair of key conference victories.
Daigneault racked up two more double-doubles last week, pushing her current streak to five games as she averaged 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to help the Jeffs go 2-0 over the weekend. During Friday’s come-from-behind 66-61 win over Williams, Daigneault had a team-high 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Saturday afternoon at Middlebury, Daigneault contributed 16 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. For the week, she shot .522 from the floor (12-for-23) and .833 (10-for-12) from the charity stripe.
Heading into the postseason, Daigneault ranks 13th in the NESCAC in scoring (11.6 ppg), sixth in rebounding (7.2 rpg), 15th in steals per game (1.38) and third in field goal percentage (52.8). During her stretch of five consecutive double-doubles, she is averaging 16.0 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor.
Amherst wrapped up its regular season with a 23-1 record, marking the best regular season finish in program history. The Lord Jeffs’ 8-1 NESCAC record earned them the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, as they will host seventh-seeded Colby Saturday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m.
